How to Install Your Portugal eSIM

Your Portugal Internet eSIM arrives as a QR code by email. Installing it takes about two minutes, with no physical SIM to swap. Follow the steps below for iPhone or Android.

Before you start

  • An eSIM-compatible, carrier-unlocked phone (most iPhones from XS/XR onward; most recent Samsung, Google Pixel and other flagships).
  • A stable WiFi connection to scan the QR code and activate.
  • The QR code email from Portugal Internet (sent before your start date).

Install in 5 steps

    Check compatibility

    Confirm your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked. On iPhone: Settings > General > About, look for an EID. On Android: Settings > About phone or dial *#06# and look for an EID.

    Connect to WiFi

    Connect to a stable WiFi network so the eSIM can download and activate.

    Open the Add eSIM screen

    iPhone: Settings > Cellular > Add eSIM. Android: Settings > Network & internet > SIMs > Add eSIM.

    Scan the QR code

    Choose "Use QR Code" and scan the QR code from your Portugal Internet email. Confirm to add the plan.

    Turn on data

    Set the Portugal Internet eSIM as your mobile data line and enable Data Roaming for this line (required for the eSIM to connect). You are online.

iPhone (iOS) quick steps

  1. Settings > Cellular (or Mobile Data)
  2. Tap "Add eSIM" / "Add Cellular Plan"
  3. Tap "Use QR Code" and scan the QR from your email
  4. Label the plan, then set it as your Cellular Data line
  5. Turn on "Data Roaming" for the Portugal Internet line

Android quick steps

  1. Settings > Network & internet > SIMs
  2. Tap "Add eSIM" / "Download a SIM instead?"
  3. Scan the QR code from your email
  4. Follow the prompts to download the plan
  5. Enable the eSIM and turn on Roaming for that SIM

eSIM installation FAQ

When will I receive my eSIM QR code?
You receive the QR code by email shortly before your selected start date, so you can install it before you travel.
Do I need Data Roaming switched on?
Yes. Travel eSIMs connect through a partner network, so Data Roaming must be enabled for the eSIM line. It does not incur roaming charges — your plan price is fixed.
Should I install the eSIM at home or in Portugal?
Install it at home over WiFi before you travel. It will only start using data once it connects in Portugal on your start date.
Is my phone compatible?
Most iPhones from the XS/XR (2018) onward and most recent Samsung Galaxy, Google Pixel and other flagship Android phones support eSIM. The phone must also be carrier-unlocked.
Can I delete the eSIM after my trip?
Yes. Once your plan ends you can remove the eSIM in Settings; it does not affect your physical SIM.
